Mount Ulía's Calendar 2019

Sustainable calendar

Fieldnotes in a calendar

A sustainable and informative calendar, a field notebook, the result of a collaboration between the Cristina Enea Foundation and the 2nd year students of Advertising Graphic Design from Usandizaga.

The Cristina Enea Foundation aims to promote more environmentally friendly habits and in 2019 it is devoting special attention to Mount Ulía, characterised by its great biodiversity in which there are numerous woodland, coastal and marine species, as well as unique plants.
A protected and ideal place to enjoy nature.

The fieldnotes are a source of information and detailed observation with the presence of sketches of the specimens observed, often drawn in pencil and watercolour.

I was commissioned to illustrate the birds and paths of Mount Ulía, corresponding to the months of May and July in the calendar. It has been possible to confirm the presence of 130 species of birds, of which we chose to represent 2 of the most emblematic ones: the yellow-legged gull and the great tit.

Mount Ulía has an enormous network of paths, all of which are interconnected. It is thanks to the voluntary work of Josetxo Mayorwho carved steps, opened and cleared paths, that we can enjoy each and every one of the magnificent landscapes.

In this project I was also responsible for the handwritten texts in each of the team illustrations.

For the letter I was inspired by the font Tangerine. The letter has been modified in order to make them looser, more "personal" and natural to write.

Authors of the illustrations in the image: Mia Mohn, Maialen López, Maitane Aramburu, Miren Maia and Iulen Odriozola.

The layout was one of the final touches to the project. The layout design used for the calendar was based on the structure used in previous years' versions.
An eco-design with low ink coverage, which is environmentally friendly, printed on 100% recycled paper with reduced grammage.
